The pictures above & below are all of Derek in 1970 as a 16 year old 11th grade student athlete at Woodrow Wilson High School San Francisco, California . . . The Home of the Warriors. The picture below with the camera was taken during my summer job in 1970 at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco, CA. I was only 16 years old, 5'11" and 145 lbs. "Man do I wish I could get back to that weight" - (SMILE) P.S. That is me long jumping on the two photos on the bottom of the page in 1970 also. Can you find me on the team picture below. Hint: last row starting on the right . . . count over (7) people and you will find me right next to Richard Humphrey on my right and David Lee on my left. Right in front of me leaning over is Alfred (AJ) Spears. We had a lot of famous Warriors on this photo who we will be telling their stories in the months to come.
Below: (l-R: ERNEST LEWIS, Woodrow Wilson HS Warrior Class of 1976, racing TUQUAIL WILLIS, Mission HS Class of 1976 in the 100 yard dash at AAA All-City Track & Field Championships at McAteer High School San Francisco, CA in May 1976. Ernest is the younger brother of Charles Lewis, WWHS Class of 1969. Ernest went on to win become one of the fastest Warriors of All-time when he ran a 10.4 100 Meters & 9.4 100 yards as a senior at Woodrow Wilson HS.
